UIN for World Class University

Today and yesterday we had "Rapat Kerja" Annual Bussiness Meeting of UIN to evaluate our 2008 program and plan 2009 programs. Many things were discussed during the meeting, but the most important goal that we pursue for the future is to make UIN in the top 500 list of World Class University. Why 500? Why not 100 or 1, competing Harvard University, McGill, ANU or other wellknown universities.
500 is the most reasonable list considering the present state of UIN. There are many indicators and criteria that have to be met for the top list. The number of the professors, the quality of researches, the number of international professors and students, the number of literatures that can support the research, etc. And for these, we are still far far behind.
One of the criteria is to have more articles published in international academic journals, and to have these articles quoted and referred internationally. How can we have this if our library cannot support us to read studies and researches on the same subject? How can we publish our articles in international journals if they are written in Bahasa Indonesia? How can they be published if they do not relate with the global and international discourse.
That is why we need to write on the subject or theme discussed and studied by the Academic Community. We can contribute on this discussion by offering new thesis based on our case study. We need to write it in English, so we can send it to academic international journals. This for sure is very difficult and needs funding, for research, writing and maybe publication. But it is very important start to become World Class University.
